Following a previously refused application, plans were submitted to Calderdale Council Planning Committee to build 23 dwellings on the former Calder Vale Mill, Pudsey Road.

The application received 37 letters of objection, including a petition with 20 signatures, two letters of representation and one letter of support.

Objector Mark Butterworth, of adjacent Springwood Mill, said the development will restrict wagons from accessing his business due to plans to install a new footpath and said residential dwellings would impact negatively on the local economy.

A Highways Agency officer told councillors’ plans could implement a pedestrian path which allows less-restricted manoeuvres for commercial vehicles. Plans were deferred to allow reassessment of the pathway and its location.

Applicant Jason Wade told Todmorden News: “If people don’t want the footpath we agree with them - we’re willing to discuss the provision of an alternative footpath.”
