The 3Bs group is looking for volunteers to help care for the garden area in Rydings Park, Brighouse.

The Safer Cleaner Greener team has had its budget slashed and is struggling to care for all the areas in Calderdale that they once did.

Joyce Cawthra, a member of the group, said the team has been told to reduce the size of the flower beds in areas which include Wellholme Park in Bradford Road due to the strain on Calderdale Council’s budget.

“The 3Bs has offered to look after with Phillip Schofields guidance, the upkeep of the Rydings library grounds and we would like volunteers to help.

People will be allocated jobs and they will be able to fit them in at their convenience. No one is being forced to do anything but it is just keeping the flower beds in a decent state. They can do as much or as little as they want.

“The Safer Cleaner Greener team will continue with the grass cutting but they are not going to be able to do what they used to in the past.

The 3Bs, who were responsible for planting daffodils in Huddersfield Road at its border with Bradley, will be at Rydings Park at 2pm on May 18. “If people want the place looking decent then we are going to have to do some of these jobs ourselves,” she said.
