Local rehabilitation centre attends Westminster Abbey event to celebrate launch of commemorative publication
Representatives of a local rehabilitation centre attended a publication launch event in the grounds of Westminster Abbey’s College Garden.
Representatives from Alpha House — a rehabilitation centre based in Halifax which helps ex-offenders get their lives back on track — attended the event last week, which celebrated the launch of Monarchy and Democracy: A History of Leadership.
The publication, which was written by a team of academics and authors, explores the roles of Crown and Parliament in the leadership of the UK and the Commonwealth.
A section in the book focuses on Alpha House and the work it does for local ex-offenders.

CEO Yvonne Oliver, who attended the event with Alpha House’s Emma Joyce, said: “It was a privilege to be represented at such an historic event and it was an important acknowledgement for all the staff, volunteers and service users.”
Alpha House was set up in 2008 and offers a three-stage accommodation programme, 10 accredited educational courses, mental-health support, drug and alcohol treatment services, and an employment programme for up to 120 ex-offenders a year.
In recent years, the charity has received The King’s Award for voluntary service, the Northern Housing Award for best resident support/wellbeing initiative, and an Innovation and Excellence Award for rehabilitation charity of the year.
