Man faces ‘lengthy jail sentence’ after admitting Brighouse robbery

A 41-year-old man faces a “lengthy jail sentence” after pleading guilty to carrying out a robbery at a Brighouse bookmakers.

Brendan Michael Kelly, of Huddersfield Road, Brighouse, appeared at Bradford Crown Court today (Monday, October 6) via video link to Armley Prison, Leeds, and pleaded guilty to robbery and the use of an imitation firearm on September 13 at William Hill bookmakers, Commercial Street, Brighouse, where he stole £150 in cash.

Kelly had previously pleaded guilty at Calderdale Magistrates’ Court to the theft of a Chinese PPS-43 7.62 calibre machine gun, a Webley B Scott Mark air rifle, two further air rifles and three pairs of binoculars from Aaron Wheeler Gunsmith Limited, Bethel Street, Brighouse, to the value of £1,883.

Judge Rose, speaking to Kelly, said: “The outcome of the sentence will only be a prison sentence of some length.”

Kelly will be sentenced on October 27 at Bradford Crown Court.
