Mayor pleads not guilty to bin theft charge

Todmorden Mayor Stephanie Booth has appeared in court accused of stealing her neighbour’s rubbish bin.

Calderdale Magistrates’ Court heard Councillor Booth, 60, is alleged to have stolen a blue tub, belonging to David Morgan.

Prosecutor Richard Davies introduced the case against Coun Booth, who is the stepmother of former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s wife Cherie.

Councillor Booth was represented in court by Malcolm Nowell.

A Labour councillor on Todmorden Town Council, Coun Booth, who lives at Robinwood Terrace, Todmorden, pleaded not guilty to the theft.

She will be tried before Leeds Magistrates Court on October 29.

The chair of magistrates Jan Mosalski granted her unconditional bail.

Councillor Booth became Mayor in May.
