Men who abadonded crashed car on M62 could be linked with crime

Police are appealing for witnesses after men believed to be linked to a crime abandoned a crashed car on the M62 and fled in another vehicle.

Leeds District CID would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place at about 3.30pm yesterday (Monday) at junction 27 of the M62 eastbound.

It occurred after a Ford Mondeo which had been travelling in convoy with a Fiat Punto and a white Mercedes L200 came off the road on the entry slip of the M62 and crashed.

The male occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled in the Mercedes which then left the scene, heading east.

Officers are linking all three vehicles with an earlier incident of criminal damage in Cottingley Springs in which several caravans were damaged.

Detective Inspector Phil Jackson of Leeds District CID, said: “We are investigating an incident of criminal damage in Cottingley Springs and suspect some of the persons involved have crashed their car while trying to flee the scene.

“I am very keen to speak to anyone who saw the road traffic collision at junction 27 of the M62 and saw the persons in the car abandon the Mondeo and then get into the L200.

“We have recovered the Ford Mondeo and enquiries are ongoing into the criminal damage incident.
