Midnight trek for Overgate

Ahead of the seventh Midnight Walk on September 13, a team from the Overgate Hospice walked the route recently to check that it is safe, fun and long enough.

The walk, that has a secret route, attracts hundreds of people every year, as the night owls challenge themselves to walk the six or 13 mile route to raise much needed funds for the hospice.

Rebecca Gill, event manager, said: “By doing the walk ourselves we are better able to anticipate any problems that may arise on the night but more importantly it allows us to empathise with the walkers and the challenge they are facing.

“We change the route every year to ensure that is is always a fresh and new challenge for our supporters. We keep the route a secret for a number of reasons, but most importantly so that our walkers are faced with renewed excitement on the night when they learn exactly where they are going.”

As the walkers were spotted on more than one occasion during the trial run, a small clue has been given to the walkers. We aren’t going to let you in on where we were but needless to say there are some beautiful spots on the route,” added Rebecca.
