Motorists stopped for snow covered vehicles

Police are reminding people to clean the snow completely off their cars before venturing out.

Officers from the Upper Valley neighbourhood policing team have stopped several people in the last few days who have failed to clear the snow completely from their vehicles.

They are reminding people to keep the windscreens and other windows clear, clear the snow from the roof because it can fall into the windscreen and obsure your view.

Use air conditioning for faster de-misting and to reduce condensation on cold windows, check windscreen wipers and replace if necessary and make sure wipers are switched off when parked and switching the vehicle off.

Top up windscreen washer fluid and make sure all bulbs are working, and that the lights are clearly visible.

And always leave enough time for your journey.

Lastly, never leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running to defrost it.
