Music and all that jazz in Calderdale this bank holiday weekend

There’s a feast of music on the menu across Calderdale this bank holiday weekend with gigs and festivals galore.

The Blues comes to Hebden Bridge for the final time on May Bank Holiday weekend when the award-winning Hebden Bridge Blues Festival bows out - and on a high with some great contemporary blues music on offer.

It begins from 3pm today, with a range of musicians on at a range of venues around the town, with some “Juke Joint” gigs free to watch until late.

Gigs and workshops continue from noon until late on Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25.

Northowram’s second Hedgefest music festival takes place on Sunday at Northowram Hedgetop Cricket Club.

The festival will feature seven bands including Huddersfield’s Nate and the Dogs and Halifax’s Belt of the Celts, Fading Sunlight, Small Words, The McCarrons and The Void.

Richard Oldfield, organiser of the event on Hedge Top Lane, said: “After last year’s success where we had over 800 people attend over the day we are anticipating another great day.

“There will be plenty to do for the kids including bouncy castles and fun competitions, We have stalls around the ground including a hog roast, Indian cusine, pie and peas.

“The club are delighted to have secured headline act the Mexanines for the second year.”

There will also be a large beer tent and inflatable gladiator games.

The gates will open at noon until 9pm. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. They can be purchased via the facebook page www.facebook.com/HedgefestUK or by contacting Richard Oldfield on 07855493264.

There’s more music in Halifax with a free gig at the Moorlands, Illingworth, on Sunday 9pm featuring Ozzbest the ultimate tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne.
