Gala chairwoman Salma Kalsoom said: “Hopefully it will be bigger and better than before.

“If people want to come down I am sure it will be a fun day with something all the family can enjoy.

“I’m really hoping for nice sunny weather. The ground is a little waterlogged at the moment but we’re expecting nicer weather for the next few days.”

The entertainment onstage will include Punch and Judy at 1.15pm, the Opening Ceremony, 1.45pm, Punch and Judy at 2.10pm, Clifton and Lightcliffe Brass Band at 2.40pm, Punch and Judy at 3.20pm and the Little Jazz Funk Orchestra at 3.40pm.

A duck race will be included in the celebrations and the dog show will return. Anyone interest can register their dogs on the day from noon.

This year’s event will feature a gala ambassador instead of a gala queen, chosen by Brighouse Ladies Circle and nominated by a local charity for their volunteer work.

Earlier this year the ambassador was named as April Quinn. The gala will kick off with a parade starting from Garden Road at noon.

The procession is roughly expected to reach Brighouse Library by 12.10pm, Commercial Street at 12.30pm, Tesco at 12.50pm and finally reach Wellholme Park at 1pm.

The gala raises funds for local and national charities and community organisations, and is run by a volunteer committee.

Brighouse Charity Gala will run noon-5pm.
