The launch of the Cycle for Work book coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Community Foundation for Calderdale (CFFC).

Martin, who owns Brighouse firm Lattitude7, was one of the seven riders who cycled over 900 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2013 as part of the CFFC Mayoral Year Project to raise funds to get young people into work, which raised £150,000 to fund 23 youth apprenticeships in Calderdale.

To celebrate the anniversary of the group, Martin created a full colour illustrated book on the cycle ride, telling the story of how this group of cyclists worked together, became life-long friends and, with the help of a wider fundraising machine, exceeded their target in April 2013.

The book not only tells the story of the Cycle for Work project but is also a useful reference work for anyone thinking of embarking on a similar project.

There is also a section on how to fundraise; how to set up Justgiving and Localgiving sites and tips to encourage businesses, school children and the general public to support worthy causes and get fit into the bargain.

The book is available at Harveys department store, Cycle Gear, Horton Street; Pedal Sport, King Cross; Happy Days Cycles, Sowerby Bridge; CI Adventures, Halifax; and the Elsie Whiteley Innovation Centre, Hopwood Lane.

The book is priced at £9.95 and all proceeds will go to Working Wonders, which was established in 2013 on the back of the success of Cycle for Work.

The Halifax Courier is giving away six copies of the book in a special competition.
