Nothing like a singalong to get you in the festive spirit

Lots of people from both the Sowerby Bridge and Hebden Bridge weekly singing groups came together for a fantastic singalong of popular carols and Christmas songs and a fabulous festive spread.

John Wilson has been running the popular singing group in Sowerby Bridge for three years.

The group was initially set up with a local GP who felt that a regular singing group would be really beneficial for his patients.

Dr Stephen Catlow said: “The singing does help the health of patients but the getting together and especially the enthusiasm and welcome that John gives has a massive impact on their well being.”

Due to popular demand and with the support of the Staying Well project and John started the Hebden Bridge group in June, and meets weekly at the Town Hall, Hebden Bridge.

John said: “The people are great characters and really friendly, it’s a brilliant way to meet new people and have fun.”

Lucy Preston, who has been going to the Hebden Bridge group for a few weeks now says how much she is enjoying herself.

“It’s wonderful and I’ve made new friends, who are really kind and friendly, they even give me and another lady a lift home afterwards.”

Singalong with John is just one of lots of brilliant activities that are happening locally, there really is something for everyone who wants to get out and about a bit more and meet people.
