"In Calderdale rates of coronavirus have been increasing really quickly since September in all age groups and in all parts of the borough

"What is a real concern is that rates are increasing faster in people aged 65 and over and thats putting pressure on our local hospital services.

"We also know that sadly during October 12 people who live in Calderdale died from Covid-19.

"Those people were aged between 67 and 93.

"We estimate that one in 40 people in Calderdale have got the virus right now and we also know not everybody that has the virus have symptoms.

"We also know those that do have symptoms not all of the isolate and stay at home for the full period of time.

"That's why it is so important that these national restrictions are adhered to.

"I know another period of restrictions is going to really really hard for us all. Calderdale is a place of kindness and resilience in the communities and the best things we can all do for ourselves, for those we loveand for our communities is stick to the rules.

It was announced last week that all areas of West Yorkshire, including Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield, would enter into the very high alert level on Monday.

However following the Boris Johnson's decision to announce a new four week national lockdown from Thursday, it has now been confirmed that Tier 3 restrictions will not be implemented in the county as planned.

Instead, Tier 2 restrictions will remain in place until the arrival of the national measures on Thursday, November 5.
