Penalty tickets issued to drivers in Halifax town centre since shops re-opened

Penalty tickets have been issued to drivers in Halifax town centre as part of a police operation.

Over the last week officers from the Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Team have been out on patrol as part of Operation Hailside.

Supporting Calderdale Council in protecting the public who have implemented measures to all shoppers to social distance while queuing.

Part of the operation included enforcing the Pedestrian Zones, which are clearly signposted on Market Street and King Edward Street.

In total of 73 penalty tickets were issued for contravening traffic signs, two tickets for no seatbelt (including a child) and one vehicle seized for no insurance.

PC Millar for Halifax Central NPT said: “It is imperative that the town centre is made as safe as possible for pedestrians and to allow the free flow of access for public transport.

"These restrictions are in place to facilitate this and we will be conducting checks in the future to ensure these restrictions are being followed”.
