Overgate Hospice charity shop to re-open after floods

The Overgate Hospice charity shop in Hebden Bridge will re-open next week, almost two months after the devastating flood Boxing Day floods hit the Calder Valley.

The newly redecorated shop on Crown Street will re-open to the public at 11am on Thursday , March 10.

Current staff and volunteers, as well as many others within the community, have given their time and resources to help restore the damage caused by the flood water.

The shop has been fully redecorated and, despite a complete loss of stock, has fully replenished with lots of high quality items thanks to generous donations across other shops.

Laura Golding, fundraising and retail manager said: “The community has really come together over the past couple of months and it has been humbling to witness.

“I would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to get us back up and running.”

The shop will open from 11am until 4pm on Thursday and will resume normal opening times from this day forward.

Refreshments will be available on the day and the team will be on hand to showcase the fantastic donations, many of which are brand new, in addition to an extended book section and a dedicated children’s area.

Trina Gledhill, Shop Manager said: “We have received some fantastic donations over the past two months and this means that we are able to return stronger and better than ever.

“The continued support of the community and our fantastic volunteers is invaluable and I cannot wait to welcome everyone back to our much-loved shop.”
