Parking charges scrapped by newly led Cabinet

Calderdale Council’s newly led Conservative Cabinet has voted to overturn parking charges in Calderdale tonight (Monday).

The controversial parking charges at ten currently charging district car parks are set to be removed, as well as the removal of evening parking charges between 6pm and 8pm in Halifax Town Centre for on and off street parking.

The decision to overturn parking charges comes just two weeks after the Labour group were ousted after a vote of no confidence.

The motion of no confidence came following the former Cabinet’s refusal to reverse parking charges, which had been backed by full council in February.

Councillor Scott Benton, Deputy Leader of the Conservative group, said: “We are progressing these amendments and charges will hopefully be removed as soon as possible.”
