Focus on youths at Hebden Bridge festival

Young people in the Calder Valley will be the centre of attention in Calder Holmes Park today.

The fourth Fair for Youth festival will take place from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday at the park in Hebden Bridge and entry is free.

On the field will be a band tent - an afternoon of live music from seven local acts, running from 12.30pm to 6pm; and a DJ tent - showcasing some of the area’s best local talent on the decks, with seven sets including a special guest from 1pm.

There will be a M.A.D.D. (music, art, dance and drums) activities marquee - a tent full of creative activities, workshops and ‘hands on’ fun all afternoon, including tie dying, jewellery making, hair braiding, clothes making and upcycling, and a graffiti wall with an experienced street-art mentor.

There will also be a photo booth where youngsters can get dressed up and have their picture taken, as well as local support service stalls giving people information on sexual health services and more.

Food and refreshments will be available from the nearby Park Life Cafe.

The festival is a community event, primarily organised and arranged by young adults in the Hebden Bridge area.

This year the youngsters raised over £5,000 via donations and council grants in order to fund the festival.
