Man and woman, both 63, now stable after explosion at home in West Yorkshire

Police have released an update on the injuries suffered by two people in an explosion in West Yorkshire.

Emergency services were called to Green Lane in Illingworth, near Halifax, at 7.40am on Saturday (Dec 5) following reports of an explosion.

A large fire had also broken out, and firefighters were on scene most of the day battling the flames and making the area safe.

Three people were treated for injuries and taken to hospital.

West Yorkshire Police has now released an update into two of those injured.

A statement from the force said: "A 63-year-old woman who suffered severe burns in the incident is described as being in a stable condition, as is a 63-year-old man who suffered serious injuries.

"Investigations into the cause of the fire remain ongoing with partner agencies including the fire service, Calderdale Council, Health and Safety Executive and Northern Gas Networks, and the area has been made safe by the fire service."

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it could be days, or even weeks, until the cause of the explosion is found.
