“With Intrigue, we’ve taken the essence of Quality Street and added a contemporary twist. Intrigue combines classic Quality Street elements such as praline, caramel and fruit, with a delicious truffle centre.

"Perfect as a gift whatever the occasion, we think this new product is very special indeed.

"We hope it will delight Quality Street fans as well as introduce new consumers to the brand.”

Quality Street Intrigue comes in three flavours: Salted Caramel Truffles, Praline Truffles and Orange Truffles. They are available in 200g boxes (RRP £5.00) each containing 20 individually wrapped sweets.

Paying tribute to the iconic Mackintosh caramel toffee which was the forerunner to Quality Street, Salted Caramel Truffles have a salted caramel flavoured centre and milk chocolate coating, dipped in crunchy salted caramel pieces.

Inspired by two of the nation’s favourite Quality Street varieties - the Green Triangle and the Purple One, Praline Truffles feature a smooth praline truffle centre encased in a milk chocolate shell and covered in hazelnut pieces.

And like its Quality Street counterparts the Orange Crunch and Orange Crème, Intrigue Orange Truffles provide a tantalising burst of citrus, coated in milk chocolate and sprinkled with orange-flavoured pieces.

Quality Street Intrigue Salted Caramel and Praline Truffles will be available in Morrisons and Asda stores nationwide from the beginning of March; and in Tesco stores from April. Orange Truffles are exclusive to Asda.

A spokesperson for Nestle said the new sweets aren’t being made at Halifax but at their factory in Italy.

The reason for this is because the Italy factory already had the capability to make these new truffles.

The core Quality Street sweets will continue to be made at Halifax and there won’t be any change there. confirmed the spokesperson.
