Northowram Pumas go the extra mile to raise thousands for the NHS

Members of Northowram Pumas running club have raised £6,270 by covering 7,428.90 miles in just 30 days.

The club had an initial goal of 5,000 miles in 30 days, with the hope of raising £5,000 in their ‘Run for the NHS’ challenge.

The Pumas’ cause was in the top one per cent of fundraisers in the world on JustGiving.com for the month of April, with members climbing 592,572 feet during the 30 days - over 20 times the height of Mount Everest.

Andy Haslam, Chairman of Northowram Pumas Running Club said: “We know that daily exercise is more important than ever in supporting our physical and mental health.

“I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to help members keep active and well while not being able to hold our usual club events.

“It’s also an amazing feeling to have not only hit, but smashed our mileage and fundraising targets for our local NHS in these times.”
