Runaway cow injures two people at cattle market

A runaway cow brought chaos to a Yorkshire town after escaping from a cattle market.

The cow broke free from the market on Gargrave Road, Skipton, at about 10.30am yesterday (Monday).

Two people were injured by the animal, which police said was behaving “erratically” as it headed towards Aireville Park.

Residents were advised to remain indoors while officers tried to track down the cow.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said it was eventually located near the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, where it was “humanely destroyed” by a police marksman at 1.20pm.

The two people hurt during the incident were a 60-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man.

Police said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
