Sowerby Bridge firm giving homelessness the boot

To mark World Homeless Day, Calderdale SmartMove partnered with Sole Responsibility to launch ‘Boots on Feet’, a new initiative to distribute thousands of pairs of walking boots to homeless charities across Yorkshire.

The event, on October 10, was attended by 15 different charities which collected warm, waterproof boots for their service users.

Sole Responsibility owner Simon Payne said: “We’re so pleased to be able to provide support to so many charities and their service users.

“It’s really important to us as a business to give back and [this] has been a great example of how this stock can be recycled for a fantastic cause."

Calderdale SmartMove support the homeless and vulnerably housed across Calderdale and have been working with Sole Responsibility for two years.

Sole Responsibility buy ex-display and returned stock from various suppliers and sells them on at a discounted prices.

Spokeswoman for Calderdale SmartMove, Beth Currie said: “2020 has been difficult for many people, but the homeless charity sector have found it particularly challenging. Demand for our services has gone through the roof and fundraising activities have been cancelled.

“Support like this is vital.”
