Thanks to this help, Age Concern and volunteers have been able, in the last four weeks, to make more than 120 deliveries of groceries to residents of five complexes.

“When the lockdown started we were uncertain how to help the many elderly residents who were isolating themselves from their families and regular support systems. Then Morrisons stepped in and we are hugely grateful for that support”, said Alex Boyle, Age Concern’s manager.

When the Age Concern office on Burnley Road next to Todmorden Information Centre proved too small to act as a collection and sorting space, the Fielden Centre on Ewood Lane offered its help.

Volunteers can now use the safe space at the centre to sort bags of groceries ready for delivery.

Alex added: “With Morrisons’ generosity and local volunteers we can continue helping elderly residents in this way as long as we are needed. We want to thank the local staff at Morrisons from everyone. Many elderly people in the town are finding it difficult to manage in the lockdown. Knowing we all have strong community support makes it so much easier.”
