Traffic near Halifax: Police shut major road in Calderdale after serious crash today

Saddleworth Road in Barkisland was closed this afternoon and police have been urging drivers to avoid the area.

As reported by the Courier earlier, they announced the road was shutting at around 2.30pm today (Saturday).

Barkisland Post Office and General Store, which is on Saddleworth Road, said it would be shutting early because of the accident.

"Due to the serious road traffic accident that happened earlier and the subsequent road closures meaning customers cannot reach the shop we will unfortunately be closing early today,” the shop posted on Facebook.

There were police at the scene at around 9pm.
