The existing Burnley Road site, which currently houses a separate food store and petrol forecourt, will be redeveloped.

The news comes almost on year on from the devastating Boxing Day floods which struck Mytholmroyd, wreaking havoc on the store.

John McNeill, the Co-op’s divisional managing director, said: “The Co-op store and petrol station are proud to serve the people of Mytholmroyd, and after a testing year we want to give the community a bigger and better store to use and enjoy.

“We expect work to begin in the second half of 2017 and will keep locals updated with more news as we have it. We continue to appreciate their loyal custom throughout this period.”
