Bankfield Museum in Halifax will host the exhibition from Saturday, October 10, which will feature a selection of drawings, paintings, prints, photographs and textiles by professional and amateur artists from across the north of England.

Artists have been submitting work in their preferred medium over the last month, in the hope of being chosen to be displayed. The exhibited work has been selected by the artists Kate Lycett, Alice Bradshaw and exhibition curator Jeffrey Andrews.

For the first time this year, visitors will be able to vote for their favourite piece to win the £100 People’s Prize, which will be awarded on Saturday, November 21.

Other prizes will be chosen by the judging panel, and include awards from department store Harvey’s of Halifax, the Victoria Theatre, Shibden Hall, Square Chapel Centre for the Arts and Eureka Children’s Museum. These prizes will be awarded by Halifax MP Holly Lynch Saturday, October 10 at 2pm.

Most of the work is for sale making it a great opportunity to purchase art by local, talented artists.

Councillor Steve Sweeney, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “Now in its fifth year, the Calderdale Open Art exhibition is a fantastic way for local artists to get their work displayed, and for visitors to see, and perhaps even purchase, some stunning artworks by up and coming artists.
