Calderdale Council wins prestigious award

The annual awards, run by the Local Government Chronicle, were held virtually yesterday to recognise the best in local government innovation and service delivery.

The Council’s win in the ‘Children’s Services’ category was thanks to sustained improvement and innovation in work with children and young people. The LGC praised the support provided to those with special educational needs and disabilities to help them achieve their full potential.

Calderdale was also a finalist in the Council of the Year category.

Tim Swift, Leader of Calderdale Council, said: “It's wonderful to be recognised with this major national award.

"It’s testament to the hard work of our incredible staff and amazing communities.

“There is no doubt that Calderdale has faced many tough times. But through them all, our dedicated staff and local people have risen to the challenge with their usual talent, kindness and resilience to achieve our Vision2024 for Calderdale.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and celebrate their efforts. We are very lucky to have teams who always go the extra mile to support our communities and make our borough so special.

“The LGC awards are extremely competitive, with over 700 entries this year and an intense judging process, so winning, and being shortlisted for Council of the Year, is a remarkable achievement.”

October has been a multi-award-winning month for the Council, which also came top in the Senior Leadership Team category at the MJ Local Government Achievement Awards on Monday.
