UPDATED: Man arrested following ‘rampage’ at Todmorden Tip

A man has been arrested after going on what police called a “rampage” on a digger at Todmorden Tip.

The man in his 50s is alleged to have set fire to a cabin and gone on a rampage using a JCB on Saturday morning.

The Eastwood Recycling Centre, on Halifax Road, Todmorden will be closed until further notice following the incident while Calderdale Council and West Yorkshire Police carry out an investigation.

Chief Inspector Viv Cutbill of Calderdale Police, said: “Police were called to an address on Halifax Road, Todmorden at 7.44am on Saturday 19 July to reports of a man setting fire to a cabin and causing damage using a JCB.

“Officers attended and the road was closed for a short time.

“The incident is now over and a man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of arson and criminal damage.”

Calderdale Council worked with contractor SITA to secure the site on Saturday to ensure there was no danger to the public.

Residents are advised to use the recycling centres on Milner Royd Mearclough, Sowerby Bridge,or Lee Bank, Ovenden Road, Halifax
