Pop rockers to headline Ball

Prestigious charity event the Firecracker Ball has attracted one of the biggest names in British pop to play at this year’s occasion at Rudding Park Hotel.

Texas, which has sold more than 35 million records globally, will be entertaining the guests at the ball on Saturday, November 14 with hits including Say What You Want, Summer Son, I Don’t Want a Lover and new material from their brand-new album, Texas 25.

Kirsty Guy, relationship manager for Barnardo’s said: “Texas are global superstars and when they agreed to play we couldn’t believe it.

“This is one of, if not the largest band to ever take the stage at The Firecracker Ball, since it first began.”

Organisers are hoping Texas will attract a capacity guest list to help them to reach a target of £2m, raised for Barnardo’s since in 2002.

Having appeared in Leeds earlier in the year to celebrate their 25th anniversary, this will be there only other appearance in Yorkshire this year.

Texas made their performing debut in March 1988 at the University of Dundee featuring Sharleen Spiteri on lead vocals and have gone on to gain worldwide fame.

And in 2013 it was stated that Texas had sold 35 million records to date.

To mark their 25th anniversary they will also perform in London Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Kirsty added: “With Texas’ appearance, other fantastic entertainment, high profile celebrity appearances and ‘money can’t buy’ auction prizes, tickets to the ball are likely to sell out very quickly.

“With only seven tables left we would urge people to get in touch rather than face disappointment.”

This year’s theme for the prestigious black tie event is Once Upon a Time and guests will be transported to a world of make believe as they enter the bespoke marquee attached to the hotel which will be transformed to a land of fairy tales.

The direct beneficiaries of this year’s fundraising will soon be announced, with Barnardo’s Young Carers services across the region being last year’s beneficiary.
