Probus makes small change count

Brighouse Probus Club members have raised £500 in the past year through a campaign launched by the chairman, Allan Dobson, called 'Be Kind to Your Trousers'.

He told members that serious damage could be caused to trouser pockets by allowing quantities of small change to accumulate in them.

Therefore, he encouraged members to empty their pockets regularly and donate the proceeds to his charity which helps Highbury Special School in Rastrick to buy assistive technology software which teaches children with special needs to read and access books.

At the May meeting a cheque was presented to Debbie Sweet, the head teacher of Highbury School.

This was followed by a talk to members by Peter Slater, a sports journalist, entitled “Don’t You Know Who I Am? - 35 Years of Being Ignored by Sport’s Rich and Famous”.

The club meets on the second Wednesday of every month at Hove Edge Bowling Club and has a varied programme of speakers and activities for the coming year.

New members are welcome.
