Proposed Sainsbury’s development in Hebden Bridge rejected

A “disastrous” Hebden Bridge supermarket proposal has been rejected at a Calderdale Council planning meeting.

A motion was carried to reject the Sainsburys supermarket proposal on the grounds that the application did not provide adequate information about how deliveries would be made safely down the narrow and congested road.

Members of the planning meeting heard arguments from both sides about the proposed £1.5m Sainsbury supermarket development that would have been situated on the former Hebden Bridge Fire Station site on Valley Road.

Chair Councillor Dan Sutherland expressed concern during the meeting about the 564 objection letters that were received “from what is quite a small town.”

People from Hebden Bridge gathered outside the Halifax Town Hall from 5.00pm and the chamber was full.
