Pulman Steel: Floods will not beat us

That is the defiant message from Sowerby Bridge-based Pulman Steel - one of the many businesses affected by the catasrophic floods which swamped the borough.

Much of the company’s warehouse and office space was damaged and it’s estimated that the cost will run into the millions.

A number of wagons, saws and plasma machines were also left destroyed by the Boxing Day deluge.

Despite the challenges, the company is still open for business and has vowed to bounce back from the flood chaos.

Finance manager Chris Horner said: “We are hoping to get back to the position we were in before Boxing Day in about three months.

“The cost will run into the millions, but we are still open for business. We employ 70 people so we need to carry because we have livelihoods to support.

“We’re trying our best to do what we can do and we will get there.

“We have been here for 31 years and we’ve not seen anything like this before, the power of water is unbelievable.”

From the moment the floods hit, the company worked hard to get its production and supply back on track.

Many of its employers gave up their Christmas break to help with the flood relief effort alongside members of the Sowerby Bridge community.

A flood clearance sale is now being held, which will include material which has been damaged and left river soiled.

Stock available includes beams, columns, channels, flats, angles, rounds, squares, box section, ERW tube, plate, sheet, bright bar and many other items.
