Retail guru Kate aims to boost business

Hebden Bridge was the focus of a free retail session aimed at putting shopping at the heart of tourism in the county.

Retail guru Kate Hardcastle, who lives in Calderdale but travels the world promoting the borough, has teamed up with Welcome to Yorkshire, an organisation aimed at developing tourism and growing the county’s economy.

Kate delivered the first session at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, speaking to more than 60 businesspeople from across the town and as far afield as Leeds, Harrogate and Ilkley.

The session, the first in a series to be held across the region, was held in the same week that Welcome to Yorkshire launched a new campaign to promote the shopping experience to visitors. The campaign includes a pocket guide covering a range of retail businesses from shopping centres to farm shops.

Kate who is a regular industry commentator on BBC, ITV and Sky News, said: “As a passionate Yorkshirewoman, I wanted to help out some of the county’s businesses that wanted to raise the bar and go from good to great when it comes to retail and customer service.”
