The Council said to ensure the safety of road users and the workforce, it will be necessary to close the road from 8.30am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Access for emergency vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained and residential traffic will be accommodated.

A diversion will be in place, directing traffic via Brighouse, Hipperholme and Halifax.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, Coun Barry Collins, said: “The road between Cain Lane and the top of Southowram Bank is in a poor condition and has deteriorated owing to a number of recent utility works and the high number of vehicles that use it.

“Because the road is so busy, we’ve arranged for the work to be carried out during the school holidays and between the morning and evening rush hours, to try and minimise disruption.”
