RSPCA brings Big Walkies to Calderdale

If you go down to North Dean Woods in Greetland on Sunday, you could be in for a big surprise.

The Halifax, Huddersfield and district branch of the RSPCA are hoping to see hundreds of dogs and their owners at the RSPCA Big Walkies event.

The walk will begin at 11.30am in front of Clay House in Greetland, with registration from 11am.

The event will see 21 Big Walkies being held throughout the country during September and October.

Lauren Moore, community fundraiser, said: “It costs just £10 to register your dog for the event and £5 for additional pooches and owners can come along for free. “Once registered participants will receive a Big Walkies participant pack with everything they need to know about the Big Walkies.”

Kath Airey, branch treasurer, said: “I will be taking part in the Big Walkies with my rescued dog Tallulah.

“I will be raising funds for my local branch animal centre which rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes hundreds of dogs each year.

“I know only too well how important it is to ensure we raise sufficient funds to care for the many animals that come through our doors each year.”

During 2014, the RSPCA Halifax animal centre accepted 820 animals into care, provided welfare assistance to 491 animals and neutered 999 animals.
