Ellie Ferguson, 12, a pupil at North Halifax Grammar School, lives in Queensbury with her mum Lindsey, dad Michael and two brothers and sister.

A keen singer, she auditioned for the contest in Leeds in March, battling a cold to sing her rendition of Taylor Swift’s hit ‘Love Song’.

She was delighted to receive the news that she had reached the regional final, which was held at Dewsbury Town Hall on April 30.

And there was more good news. The talented youngster impressed judges again when she sang ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus.

Mum Lindsey, 35, said: “We’re so proud of her, it’s unbelievable.”

The area final will take place on Saturday, May 27, and if Ellie is successful there, she will then appear at the grand final on July 29, where there will be a host of prizes up for grabs for the winner.
