In celebration of a charity that has served to empower vulnerable Calderdale women for thirty years, the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Kate Moreton-Deakin, will walk 30 miles.

WomenCentre, Halifax, has provided support to more than 100,000 women since its birth in 1985. The centre delivers services to women in crisis.

On April 30, Kate will walk from her home in Todmorden and follow a route - including Brighouse - to the WomenCentre, Silver Street, and hopes to raise money towards the cost of the running of the charity.

Kate said: “The walk is something of a metaphor for the life journey undertaken by many women. I don’t feel very well prepared, but the women supported by the centre are not always prepared to tackle crisis in their lives. This reflects the journey so many women have taken over the years - they can feel lonely and isolated; needing intermittent help and support along the way.”
