Todmorden men accused of terror posts appear in court

Oliver Johnson, 21, of Dineley Avenue, received 200 hours of unpaid work and was ordered to pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.

Mark Sutcliffe, 21, of Halifax Road, was bailed to Bradford Crown Court for sentencing in March.

The comments were posted on Facebook November 15, just two days after the horrendous attacks.

Neither have links to Daesh or the Muslim community and said they made the post for shock value whilst high on cannabis and did not think of the consequences of their behaviour.

PC Ryan Stockton, local ward officer for Todmorden, thanked the local community for its quick response in reporting the post.

He said: “This was an inflammatory post which caused great upset to people not only in the local community, but to the wider public who were rightly disgusted by the post so soon after the devastating attacks in Paris only days beforehand.

“Once reported, swift action was taken against the defendants, resulting in a successful prosecution and I want to thank those who provided vital information to assist West Yorkshire Police in bringing the case to a positive conclusion.”
