Car fire in Boothtown spreads to houses

A car fire almost led to two houses going up in smoke in Boothtown this morning (Monday).

Crews from Halifax were initially called to reports that a Peugeot 405 was on fire at 2am. En route they were told that the fire had spread to two houses adjacent to where the car was parked.

When crews arrived they used two hose reels, breathing apparatus and dry powder to deal with the car fire. Their quick actions meant that only minor damage was done to windows in both properties, whilst one front door was completely destroyed.

Nobody was injured in the incident, and, having been alerted to the danger by their smoke alarms, all occupants had been evacuated from the two properties by the time fire officers arrived.

Crews left the scene at 3am.

Gas engineers were called to the scene because damage had been caused to the exterior gas meter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
