"We’ve been working hard to determine the most appropriate solutions to repair the damage and unfortunately these are all complex and costly."

As soon as it was safe to do so, work took place to seal the crack to prevent further weakening of the slope.

Site investigations have since revealed the full extent of the damage and a number of options have been identified for repairs. Each option is complex and will require specialist work. It’s estimated that the repairs will cost in the region of £2.25million and the road is likely to reopen to traffic in spring 2021.

At the meeting of Calderdale Council’s Cabinet on August 3, members will discuss the results of site investigation work and assess the funding needed to make the complex repairs.

A number of funding options are being explored to cover the cost but it is hoped the project will receive external grant money via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

“We want to get the road open as soon as we can and we’re pursuing a number of funding options to cover the cost of this major undertaking. We will then move swiftly to appoint specialist contractors to reopen the road as soon as practicably possible," said councillor Scullion.

The work plan to repair the A6025, Park Road, Elland will be discussed at the meeting of Calderdale Council’s Cabinet which will be held virtually on August 3.

The meeting will be live streamed through the Council’s YouTube channel from 6pm.
