Man involved in car crash who died is named at inquest

The man involved in a car crash in Southowram who died has been named as Raymond Oates.

An inquest was opened and adjourned at Calderdale Coroners Court following his death on Saturday.

Police are appealing for witnesses after Mr Oates, 81, a former quarry owner, died in the incident in Brookfoot Lane at the junction of Cow Lane at 8.35am.

The collision involved a Range Rover Sport and a Nissan Note.

Firefighters from Brighouse and Elland attended the incident and spent 45 minutes cutting free Mr Oates from his vehicle.

The elderly driver of the Nissan Note was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where he later died. The driver of the black Range Rover Sport suffered facial injuries in the collision.

Police officers had to close the road which links Brookfoot with Southowram for over five hours.

Investigations are being carried out as to the cause of death of the driver of the Nissan Note and police are asking for anyone who saw the collision to contact the non-emergency number 101.
