Firefighters from Halifax, Illingworth and Rastrick were called to the incident at Sunside Garage, Saddleworth Road, at 7pm last night (Wednesday).

When they arrived heavy goods vehicles filled with tyres and a fiberglass box trailer were on fire in a compound. The fire was threatening to spread to a yard which contained four cars, three camper vans, one caravan and gas canisters.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used six large jets to extinguish the fire and contain it to the compound. However the heat of the fire did melt the cars, camper cans and caravan.
