Teenager rescued after eight metre industrial roof fall

Calder Valley Search and Rescue rescued a teenager after he fell eight metres from a roof leaving him injured at the side of the River Calder.

At 8.10pm on Thursday July 10 the team of volunteers received a request from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for urgent assistance in evacuating a 14-year-old who had fallen from the industrial building in Gog Hill Road near Elland Bridge.

He had sustained possible back, head and arm injuries.

His friends raised the alarm and the casualty was located in an inaccessible area, at the rear of the property on steep wooded ground, littered with debris by the edge of the flowing River Calder.

Within 24 minutes of receiving the call, 22 members from CVSRT were on scene and preparing for the rescue.

A pathway through the overgrown trees down the banking was quickly cleared and a rope system was set ready for the rescue.

Before long, the casualty was comfortably on the stretcher and hauled up the banking to the waiting ambulance and was taken to hospital.
