The rain couldn’t dampen people’s spirits as there was a great turnout to see the well decorated trees.

Organiser of the event Winifred Rogers said: “I thought it was a brilliant turnout, especially because the weather was so bad.

Seven of the trees were themed around the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’where they took two verses each to use when decorating their tree.

Another seven depicted the Christmas story from beginning to end and there was also a prayer tree for people to put a star on and have five minutes to themselves.

Father Christmas came to visit the children on the Saturday to spread some Christmas extra cheer and refreshments were enjoyed as people admired the beautiful trees.

Winifred said: “I’m now planning for the flower festival in July - but I am trying to think of a theme for next year’s tree festival already!”
