Through both online fundraising and in-store donations in Pets At Home, pet lovers in Halifax are being urged, along with others across the UK, to make a positive difference and donate what they can to help pet rescue centres on the brink of closure and in dire need of financial support.

Support Adoption For Pets, the UK’s largest grant giving animal charity, has launched the nationwide Save our Rescue Centres summer fundraising initiative, which will see pet rescue centres across the UK benefit from vital funds donated either online or in-store.

Amy Wilson, Fundraising Manager for Support Adoption For Pets, said: “The Save our Rescue Centres appeal is all about rescuing the rescues themselves; raising vital funds for them and the pets in their care, so that they are able to keep going until they can open, rehome pets, and fund-raise as normal.

“The message is simple - these pets cannot feed themselves.

"If you’re out shopping for pet essentials, just remember that even a 50p donation can help support a rescue pet with essentials like health checks, food and shelter.

“Every year, we 're completely overwhelmed by the work and enthusiasm of Pets at Home stores as well as the generosity of its customers - and we thank them again for their support during these difficult times.

"We're urging people to give what they can in support of a rescue centre near them.”

What started on Monday to July 5, customers at Pets at Home Halifax will be able to donate to help feed and care for rescue pets at Linbee Dog Rehoming.

Customers will be encouraged to include a donation of as little as 50p to Linbee Dog Rehoming when paying at the till, with 100% of all donations going straight to the chosen rescue.

Although many rescue centres across the UK are not currently able to rehome pets or host fundraising events as they normally would due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the pets in their care still need looking after - and with many facing the devastating prospect of closure in light of the pandemic, they need the public’s help to do this now more than ever.

Donations can be made either in store or online via the Support Adoption For Pets website.

Nathan Reynolds, store manager at Pets at Home Halifax, said: “We’re determined to raise as much money as we can for Linbee Dog Rehoming during these challenging times, and hope that the people of Halifax will donate what they can, either while shopping with us in store or online.”

Kath Airey - branch chair of Halifax branch, said: "It's been difficult but we're an established charity and have a good following on social media, which we've utilised to create fundraising events.

"However, we don't receive funding from the national RSPCA charity - and have to make up the funds for the animals ourselves.

"Due to coronavirus, we had to cancel our all fundraising events, and our charity shops have been shut during the pandemic, which are our bread and butter.

"This year was supposed to be the charity's 20th anniversary of our branch's K9 Party in the Park, which takes part in Manor Heath.

"The event is usually a popular one and brings in a lot of fundraising.

"We're hoping to do something on social media to hold some sort of K9 Party event.

"Going forward, I would encourage the public to follow us on social media and hopefully donate any clothes or food to the charity for raise funds.

"Without funding we'd struggle to provide good care for these animals so we need as much help as possible.

"We're trying to get back to normal for these animals, whatever normal will be in the future."
