Updated: Local 16-year-old girl killed after being hit by train in Hipperholme

A 16-year-old local girl died after being hit by a train in Hipperholme.

The girl, who British Transport Police (BTP) have not named, was hit by the train close to Hipperholme tunnel just after 12.30am on Saturday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

BTP are not treating her death as suspicious and have informed the Rail Accident Investigation Branch. A file has also been prepared for the Calderdale Coroner.

A BTP spokesman said: “Our officers were called to the line close to Hipperholme tunnel, Halifax, just after 12.30am on Saturday, 13 December, following reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from West Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended. Sadly a 16-year-old girl, from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The girl’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

“The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.”

Floral tributes have been left near to the scene of the incident.
