UPDATED: Met Office issue weather warning for snow and ice

The yellow ‘be aware’ warning for snow is valid for Yorkshire and the Humber from 2pm this afternoon, until 3am tomorrow morning (Sunday).

Showers are expected through the afternoon and much of this evening - these will fall as sleet and snow and will be heavier over hills, moors and Pennines.

The yellow ‘be aware’ warning has also been issued for ice and is valid from 4pm this afternoon until 12pm tomorrow.

AMet Office spokesperson said: “Northerly winds have followed Friday nights vigorous depression introducing much colder conditions.

“Clear spells on Saturday evening and night will allow temperatures to fall sharply allowing widespread ice to readily form on untreated surfaces.

“Widespread icy patches are expected to readily form on untreated surfaces this evening and during Saturday night, especially where snow cover exists or where wintry showers occur.

“The public should take extra care and be aware of the possibility of some disruption to travel.”

Calderdale Council’s Highways department has announced all routes in the borough will be treated this evening (Saturday) and monitored over night as a precautionary measure.

Routes will also be assessed early on Sunday morning.
