Thousands turned out for the annual event which was held in Manor Heath Park today (Saturday).

After a bleak morning, brighter spells did eventually arrive meaning there was plenty of fun in the sun to be had for the 7,000 who attended.

Chairman Lee Gething said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic. The weather that was forecast for this afternoon didn’t materialise and it brightened up so it was a gloriously sunny afternoon. People were still paying to get in at 4 o’clock which meant it went on for longer than usual.

“It’s all gone very smoothly and everyone really enjoyed themselves.”

Starting with a colourful procession from Eureka! Museum there was lots to interest punters young and old alike with a Punch & Judy show, music, dance displays, a fairground, donkey rides, a baby competition, and plenty of charity stalls.

There was also an appearance from Huddersfield Giants rugby league star Scot Grix.

The event, which has run since 1957, is organised by the Halifax Charity Gala Committee, for the benefit of local charitable organisations. All proceeds raised will go to more than 50 good causes which benefit the people of Calderdale.
