Volunteers cooking on gas with project

The team from Calor’s Elland Customer Operations Centre, with assistance from colleagues at Barnsley Calor Centre and from the Sales and Engineering departments, carried out improvements at Rastrick’s Lower Edge Care Centre.

Calor organiser, Julie Byrne said: “Lower Edge Care Centre have experienced, as many organisations have suffered, cuts to their funding affecting how they operate.

“In 2014 Calor was able to contribute some time and resources in painting some of their internal areas. This year again we jumped at the chance to organise an activity to help them.”

As part of Calor’s annual ‘Start from the Heart’ community action initiative, the volunteers removed a dilapidated decking area and replacing it with a bigger, sturdy decked area, complete with protective fencing, and freshly painted.

Calderdale Council’s Head of Partnerships and Personalisation, Pippa Corner, said:

“Calor has provided a fantastic new area for users of Lower Edge Care Centre. A lot of hard work has gone into the project and the decking area has been transformed into a lovely spot where people can sit and look our over the countryside.

“It’s great that companies like Calor have community initiative projects like this; making a real difference to local people and their communities.”

Materials were supplied by, and a financial contribution received from, SKY DIY, Halifax.
