Update: Winds causing travel disruption

High winds are continuing to cause major disruption across Calderdale, with roads closed and reports of power cuts.

The M62 between junctions 22 and 24 is closed to high sided vehicles due to safety reasons.

In addition, the M62 currently has two lanes closed westbound between junction 23 (Outlane) and 22 (Rishworth Moor) due to an overturned HGV at Scammonden Bridge.

Drivers are able to pass the incident using lane three but there are delays in the area.

The Highways Agency is working to open lane two as soon as possible and recovery of the vehicle is ongoing.

These routes will remain closed until the high winds subside, which is expected to be around midnight. Road users are advised to plan ahead.

The Highways Agency will continue to monitor wind speeds closely and will reopen the routes as soon as it is safe to do so.

Drivers planning to travel during the current severe weather are encouraged to plan their journey in advance and check the latest weather and traffic conditions along the route.

Meanwhile there have been reports of power cuts in the upper Calder Valley.

Parts of Todmorden are said to be in “total darkness” as the stormy weather takes its toll on power lines.
